June Ceilidh
Mark your calendars for June the 25th, we’re having a Ceilidh!
For those who don’t know, a Ceilidh is a tradtional Gaelic knees-up with a focus on dancing. Drams, great tunes and dancing, what more do you need.
Malt of the Moment: The Glenlivet
It’s February already, and we hope that people have been enjoying their summer with a dram or two. We’ve got several great whiskies to look at this month, and we’ll start with The Glenlivet, one of the most well-known whiskies in the world.
The Glenlivet has previously been advertised as “The single malt that started it all”, and it would be hard to argue with that – The distillery is the first and oldest legal distillery in Speyside, founded in 1824 at Upper Drumin, Moray by George Smith and his son James Gordon Smith, and it has operated almost continuously since except for a period during WWII. If you would like to know more about The Glenlivet, have a look at their superb website, particularly the ‘Guardians of Glenlivet’ section.
The Glenlivet 12: One of the most widely available and most easily accessible whiskies, it is easy to see why so many people new to whisky get pulled in by this dram.
Tasting notes: an approachable, soft and interesting whisky with a floral delicacy, fruityness and subtle hints of oak. A perfect introduction to whisky that still offers plenty for seasoned whisky drinkers.
February price: $65 – 40% 700ml
The Glenlivet 15 French Oak: Partly matured in fine French Limousin oak casks, this Glenlivet has an amazing depth of flavours to it.
Tasting notes: creamy and rich, this whisky starts off on notes of resinous oak, light citrus and fruit salad. It builds to a citric, nutty, sweet vanilla and toffee palate with superbly balanced oak wood notes. A really classy dram.
February price: $80 - 40% 700ml
The Glenlivet 18: A big dram that still maintains the fragrant and delicate aromas found in its younger siblings, in balance with fresh and enticing woody notes.
Tasting notes: Oak is the star of the show here, with notes of varnish and old wood. The oak is beautifully offset by the trademark Glenlivet floral fragrances, toffee and a burst of spice. A seriously good whisky, perfect for after dinner (or any time you feel like spoiling yourself).
February price: $125 – 40% 700ml
or you can get the trio for just $264!
We also have available The Glenlivet 21 year old ‘Archive’ and The Glenlivet 25 year old.
If you haven’t tried Glenlivet yet, or haven’t had a Glenlivet for a few years, why not take this oppertunity to try their range out? They offer a great range of whiskies that appeal to all whisky drinkers both novice and experienced.

Whisky highlights:
We now have the entire Classic Malts series back in stock: Talisker, Dalwhinnie, Cragganmore, Oban, Glenkinchie and last but not least Lagavulin. That’s right, Lagavulin 16 is back in stock!
Here are a couple of other interesting whiskies we’ve enjoyed recently for you to have a look at.
For a treat:
- Port Charlotte 8 & Octomore 2 – Two heavily peated whiskies from Bruichladdich, with the Octomore 2 being the most heavily peated whisky we stock – it’s a brute!
- Jura 16 & Prophecy - a couple of superb malts from Jura: the 16 oozes soft, classy calm maturity while the prophecy brings heavy peat and coastal notes.
For every day drams:
- Miltonduff 1998 – bottled by Douglas Laing, this is a charming wee drop from their Provenance range.
- Benromach 10 – the first 10 year old whisky from the new owners of Benromach, Gordon & Macphail. A refreshing and flavourful dram.
- Speymalt Macallan 99/08 – An old-style heavily sherried Macallan from Gordon and Macphail.
Keep an eye out for…
Our latest shipment is just around the corner (near the middle of the month), so here are a couple of highlights:
- Kilchoman Release 2 – The burgeoning wee distillery of Kilchoman on Islay have released their second whisky. We will have limited supply of this, so you had better be in quick once it arrives as the first lot sold out in a couple of weeks.
- Lots of delicious single cask or small cask bottlings from Signatory, Douglas Laing and Adelphi.
The Charles Maclean tour of New Zealand 2010 is starting to pick up steam, and we will have finalized dates and ticket sales going live near the middle of the month.
We hope you’re enjoying your summer.
From all of us at Whisky Galore
